Reading this book after learning on Mothers Day 2015 that our Mom had terminal cancer. She made it home to my sister's on hospice 9 days. We lost her but her death was beautiful if u can call it that. My mom saw her daddy and told us she had four days left with her family. She died in the early hours of the morning following her fourth day with us. The author of this book has my utmost respect.
Becki has a gift for writing touching short stories about a subject many people shy away from. She was the hospice nurse for my very dear family member years ago. I haven't seen Becki since, but will always remember her for her calm, gentle manner, and the compassionate home care she gave to my dying loved one and his family - bewildered, shocked, and grieving as we all were. Her genuine love for people shines throughout her book. I am a nurse myself now, in part because of the impression Becki left on me. I loved reading her book. If a book about dying can be comforting, yet charmingly written, this is it.
Very good read. But I watched Becki Hewkins on U Tube, and I enjoyed her very much, her expressions are wonderful. Becki sure has an very wonderful face for expressions. Love her, her video and loved the book. Your will really enjoy this video and book🙂 I have learn so much about hospice, and what these people see when they die.
This book gives such amazing insight to the process and the emotional roller coaster ride people go through. Some are fighters and some quietly accept their fate. I'm so glad Becki wrote this book! Thank you for sharing these very raw stories with us especially the stories of your family. God Bless you Becki..!
Genuine and real, these heart-filled, poignantly honest experiences by this retired nurse, Becky, are inspirational and encouraging for me as an RN but also for the personal "heavenly" accounts she experienced with so many of her patients. Their visions, beliefs and the incredible faith of so many of these hospice patients was heartwarming and renewed my own faith in what's yet to come after we each die and leave this earth.
I originally purchased Becki's book after watching a talk she gave (on YouTube) about some of her experiences in hospice care. I loved her perspectives on caring for the dying. She's simultaneously down to earth and yet spiritual/deep, loving and sincere, which made me want to read her book. The book is of simple, short stories of some of the patients she has worked with throughout her years in hospice (she reads some stories from the book in the YouTube talk which I can post here for anyone who is interested). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl5cu1H4Hss
I loved Becki's video on you tube. It was as so lovely, and lively. I found the stories fascinating, in their similarities, and sweet in the southern dialect. Though the book had a few more stories and reflection, I really fell in love with Becki on that video
Becki Hawkins shares her experiences as a hospice nurse in this wonderful book. She is strong, compassionate and has a great sense of humor. The book is well written and the subject matter held my interest all the way through, Highly recommend.
