So far so good! I am only on chapter six of the book, but so far I don't feel as scared of dosage calculations. My nursing program has required us to get this book for an orientation and every week we turn in hw and take a test! It is a nice refresher of math if it has been awhile and walks you step by step when it comes to solving problems. I like that we are beginning with fractions, decimals, proportions, ratios, and measurements first (to name a few) because I think it will make dosage calculation a little easier once we get to that. I suggest the book even if it is not required and u want to prepare yourself for doing dosage calculations or if u just need the extra help because math is not your subject.
This is a required book for the nursing program that I am in. We must score a perfect score on our math exams to pass each class each semester. This book gives some wrong answers!! Not good when trying to learn! Also, whoever rented this book before me worked out each problem in the book. It's hard to learn if the answer is right there in front of you. Guess that's the price to pay for renting.
I like how much practice this book offers, however, I could not, for the life of me, figure out how they got the answers in the back of the book. I set up my calculations totally different, and found it rather frustrating when my results did not match with the back of the book answers. However, this work book offers a great opportunity for many different drug calculations that nurses will see in the clinical setting, and does a good job providing enough of the same problems to ensure the students get adequate practice, but not so many that the problems become redundant.
Required text for nursing school. Examples are good. Teaches 2 ways of calculating doses. Our instructor told us to ignore the ratio way of learning calculations and it was so much easier to do. If you like ratios better than this book is also for you. I will definitely use this book throughout nursing school to keep my skills of calculating doses up to speed.
If you need help with dosage calculations, this book is a decent resource--but if you have a basic understanding of chemistry and conversions, you probably will not need this book. This book was recommended for med calc for nursing school. I opened it once and briefly flipped through the first few chapters. It was a complete waste of money for me because I had taken organic and biochem and was very familiar with equations, calculations, and conversions. I passed med calc with no issues.
The book itself is in good condition, but all the practice problems past the first couple chapters have been messily solved, rendering the text pretty much useless. I didn't want a whole book full of problems that someone else has already done.
Basic math. No complex math that I needed for my course. No IV formulas. Not a lot of practice tests
This book helped touch up some on my math skills, as I related them to med calculations. I would give this book 5 stars if it had supplemental online content, such as more practice exams, or just more exams in the book all together. I went through most the chapters in one night and made a 100 on my med calculations test the next day. I have to say that I generally enjoy math, just needed a brush up, so if someone was needing more extensive help, this book may not work.
