18 and Life on Skid Row

18 and Life on Skid Row tells the story of a boy who spent his childhood moving from Freeport, Bahamas, to California and finally to Canada and who, at the age of eight, discovered the gift that would change his life.

Throughout his career Sebastian Bach has sold over 20 million records both as the lead singer of Skid Row and as a solo artist. He is particularly known for the hit singles "I Remember You", "Youth Gone Wild", and "18 & Life" and the albums Skid Row and Slave to the Grind, which became the first ever hard rock album to debut at number one on the Billboard Top 200 and landed him on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Bach then went on to become the first rock star to grace the Broadway stage, with starring roles in Jekyll & Hyde, Jesus Christ Superstar, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He also appeared for seven seasons on the hit television show Gilmore Girls.

In his memoir Bach recounts lurid tales of excess and debauchery as he toured the world with Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Mötley Crüe, Soundgarden, Pantera, Nine Inch Nails, and Guns N' Roses. 18 and Life on Skid Row is the story of hitting it big at a young age and of a band that broke up in its prime. It is the story of a man who achieved his wildest dreams, only to lose his family and then his home. It is a story of perseverance; of wine, women, and song; and of a man who has made his life on the road and always will. 18 and Life on Skid Row is not your ordinary rock memoir, because Sebastian Bach is not your ordinary rock star.

I've followed Sebastian's career since '89 and he's always been my favorite singer. It was great reading the behind the scenes stories and how he dealt with international fame at such a young age. He also talks about personal things, like the death of his father, which inspired the song "By Your Side." I finished this book in two days and I really enjoyed it. Highly recommended!

I'm not sure how Sebastian Bach survived this life but one thing is for sure, he was meant to. Omg the stories he tells are nothing short of what you only hear Rock and Roll are. He has lived his life recklessly and yet on his terms he made it work out every time. I'm glad I read his book. I have seen him on TV at times and found he has a great sense of humor but with the life he had I think you would have to. I was glad to see he found a woman that grounded him in a way that he seems to have found some peace In that ADHD life of his. I think he does deserve it and hope he keeps landing on his feet.

Normally I don't want to know anything about rock stars personal lives, but I saw this one and I always wondered what happened to Skid Row. Now I know. I am amazed that 1: he didn't lose the ability to sing and still scream(frankly one of the best ever) and 2: he is still around to tell the tale. I think Sebastian Bach is funny, articulate, smart and all over the place all at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed all if it. Even when he is writing about the painful parts, it is well written and not glossed over to make himself look better. When he was a jerk he admitted it. Takes some painful introspection to honestly do that. I admire anybody that comes across as human and not just a "Rock Star " writing a book. I highly recommend this read.

I like Sebastian Bach -- and I like memoirs of people that I like -- but the combination of the two here didn't add up to what I thought it would. I'm always interested in the life story of people that rise to fame -- how did it start, what was in their early life that pulled them in this direction, what motivated them along the way. I thought from the beginning that's what this would be. But the story was disjointed -- it started out with the story of him being pelted on stage and throwing back a bottle -- an incident that was never mentioned again. The story then went back to his childhood, and then his career climb -- and then suddenly jump back to his youth -- and then jump to a different part of his career or a specific show - and it was just too confusing to follow. I also found it a bit hypocritical when, in so many places, he talked down using drugs, he hates cocaine, hard liquor makes him a jerk, LSD is bad stuff, etc etc. And then almost glorifying it by way of half the book retelling his experiences while high or stoned. On the plus side, it reads as though he wrote this himself, didn't have someone else do it. There's a genuineness to it, it's as though he's sitting there telling the stories -- particularly when he speaks of his father and grandmother -- his love for them comes through. And I do like his treatment of Ted Nugent, which is imho deserved. Add it up, and I can only give it three stars.

A good Biography...I found it hard to put down.Like may of the readers I am a fan of Skid Row. Skid Row is part of my later teenage life sound track. I got this book for my Kindle, Amazon had it on sale for a day. I was pleasantly surprised, I get the since that Bach is sitting in a room talking to me. Many of his heroes, Kiss, David Lee Roth, Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Metallica, Guns N Roses.....are the same bands I am interested in, and would want to meet if I had the means too. I especially enjoyed the times he got to meet and party with his heroes. He is a hard rocking hard working person who has a passion for many of the same music I do. It was an easy fun read.

Good Read. IT does jump around a lot from year to year. But it is interesting. The one thing it lacked is captions under all the photos, therefore there is no way to know how old is the person in the photo or year or place it was taken or even who the other people with him are. Loved the stories in there. However, one thing that really did disappoint is hardly any mention of his fiancé of a couple of year of Minnie Gupta. It's like those years were totally glossed over, despite his fiancé being in so many of his videos and being an inspiration to some of his best solo albums.

Great read about his life, growing up and the party rock and roll scene as expected. I preferred the end of the book and telling about his broadway experiences and his relationship with his father. The only thing lacking for me was the lack of talking about his ex-wife Maria. He brought her up on occasions but didn't give a ton of insight on their relationship, the good times between them, etc.

Smart, witty, laugh out loud stuff. Dare I say classy? Yes. We all know these boys got a lot of tail. Sebastian didn't go into any classless, detailed stories of his conquests, and it was one of the few metal books I have read that strongly cautioned against doing what our metal gods put up their noses and arms. Really good read. Good guy. Really enjoyed this one
